Dr John C. Coleman

John Coleman brings vast experience in policy, finance, trade, institutional development, corporate governance and other areas, based on his 38-year career. He has occupied a variety of senior positions in the Canadian government, in international organizations, in private consulting, and in Canada's national university association. He worked outside Canada for nearly ten years (IMF, OECD, EBRD) and has policy and program experience in Europe, the former Soviet Union, Asia, and Africa. He has served as Canada's Assistant Deputy Minister of Finance; Chairman of the OECD Export Credits Arrangement (where he led successful international negotiations that took most subsidies out of government export credits and kept them separate from genuine aid); and was founding Chairman of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal. As Executive Director for Canada at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, he played a major role in developing financial and lending policies and corporate governance standards for this then very new institution. As Vice-President, Program Development, Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, he set up a consulting group that proved very successful in winning and managing education and good governance projects funded by CIDA and the international development banks. He also helped transform AUCC's corporate scholarship program, serving over 170 Canadian and international firms.
