Campus

IISA consists of four buildings, two football pitches, two tennis courts, a basketball court and several hectares (about 5 acres) of grounds. The campus is a walled compound that used to belong to a wealthy Allepine. The main building is an early 20th century mansion remodeled to serve as classrooms for our upper elementary school and middle school, as well as library, ES computer lab and administrative offices. The other three buildings contain lower elementary, secondary school, science labs and our auditorium. Our grounds are adorned with gardens, trees and lawns. As the campus is also used by the ICARDA Sports Club the grounds are immaculately maintained with a large variety of pine, palm and fruit trees along with shrubbery and flowers.
Also on the premises is the residence of the Director General of ICARDA, the ICARDA sports club and part of the ICARDA motor pool. The Syrian Government donated the grounds to ICARDA in 1977 and for several years it served as ICARDA's headquarters. As a result the campus is still known as Office One. In the early 1980s, ICARDA moved its headquarters to its present location on a 2000 hectare agricultural research station at Tel Hadya off the Damascus Road about 40 kilometers south of Aleppo.
The IISA auditorium is a multi-purpose facility used for not only school assemblies, but meetings, theatrical productions, concerts and dances. When utilized as a theater, the auditorium seats up to 300 depending on seating arrangement. Modern lighting and sound facilities allow for seamless amplification and special effects, greatly enhancing the overall experience.
