Fine Arts
IISA promotes and encourages all students to participate in and
enjoy the arts. We believe a strong appreciation of the visual and
performance arts is necessary for the development of a well rounded
and mature individual. The course taught at IISA is designed to
promote aesthetic and creative thinking and create an appreciation
of diversity in the art world.
Visual Arts - Grades 9 and 10
The
course presents a program that gradually introduces students to art.
Our goal is to provide stimulating experiences that will encourage
students to develop the following:
• Curiosity, interest and enjoyment in their own creativity and that
of others
• An appreciation of fine arts
• A well devolved aesthetic sense
The Art curriculum introduces students to drawing, painting,
sculpture and pottery, and also provides a forum for artistically
inclined students to grow as artists and display their work.
IB Art and Design Standard and Higher Level
- Grades 11 and 12
This course aims to provide
students with the opportunity to develop aesthetic, imaginative and
creative faculties. It stimulates and develops visual awareness,
perception and criticism of the arts of various cultures and
encourages the pursuit of quality through training, individual
experimentation and persistent endeavor. Students undertake studio work
including drawing, painting, collage, handicraft, sculpture and
designing and preparing posters, logos, book covers etc. Students in
this course will be expected to spend several hours each week
developing their ideas in a sketch book. Those students studying for
the IB Certificate or Diploma will be examined by a visiting
examiner during a formal exhibition of their work.
Yearbook
The emphasis of this course is on producing the school yearbook. Students
will learn technical aspects of organizing, designing and assembling
IISA's yearbook. Organizational and leadership qualities in participating
students are required. Some of the areas covered will be planning,
photography, caption writing, body-copy writing and computer layout.
Time outside regular classes is often needed to cover and photograph
school events.
