The IISA Philosophy Statement
Students at the ICARDA International School of Aleppo (IISA) are principled, self-directed learners who think creatively and are prepared to take intellectual risks. They use their skills and knowledge to inquire and to solve problems. They reflect on their learning and strive for excellence. They communicate their ideas effectively and demonstrate care and concern for others.
Students learn best when they make connections between new ideas and their previous knowledge and experiences. The school fosters this construction of knowledge by providing students the opportunities and skills for exploring ideas, communicating, and adapting to new situations. At IISA we meet each individual's physical, intellectual, affective and social needs.
IISA, part of the ICARDA research organization, is an international community of students, teachers, staff and parents who celebrate cultural diversity. We use our learning and talents to contribute to the larger community in Aleppo and the global community beyond. We work together to develop students for a future as life-long learners, leaders and open-minded world citizens.
