Research Technician
The Biodiversity and Integrated Gene Management Program
Aleppo, Syria
The Biodiversity and Integrated Gene Management Program (BIGMP) has an immediate vacancy for the position of Research Technician (GS5 – GS6 category) at ICARDA’s headquarters in Aleppo.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following will be the duties and responsibilities of the Research Technician reporting directly to the Head, Seed Health Laboratory:
•
 Conducting field inspections and elimination of diseased plants
•
 Carrying out seed health testing methods and identifying seed borne pests
•
 Carrying out assigned field and laboratory research activities
•
 Preparing quarantine documents for outgoing seed shipments
•
 Maintenance of laboratory standard and assigned equipment
•
 Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
•
 Agriculture Engineering University Degree, or an Agriculture Post Secondary Diploma with at least six years relevant work experience
•
 Ability to work under field conditions
•
 Experience in isolating and identifying seed borne pests
•
 Ability to communicate with Syrian quarantine officers
•
 Basic computer skills
•
 Good command of written and spoken English and fluency in Arabic
•
 Ability to work in a team
•
 Driving license


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The initial period of employment will be one year and renewable on an annual basis. The starting salary will depend on relevant qualifications and experience. ICARDA provides 20 days annual leave, a savings scheme, and medical/life insurance.
