Organization
Established in 1977 as an autonomous, non-profit, international research
center, ICARDA is one of the 15 international research centers supported
by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR),
which is co-sponsored by the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations, the International Fund for Agricultural
Development (IFAD), and the United Nations Development Programme.
ICARDA's mission is to contribute to the improvement of livelihoods
of the resource-poor in dry areas by enhancing food security and alleviating
poverty through research and partnerships to achieve sustainable increases
in agricultural productivity and income, while ensuring the efficient
and more equitable use and conservation of natural resources. With
its main research station and headquarters in Aleppo, Syria, and a
staff of over 500 scientists and support personnel, ICARDA works through
a network of partnerships with national agricultural research systems
(NARS), regional and international institutions, universities, advanced
research institutes, and non-governmental organizations. In addition
to its headquarters programs, ICARDA operates throughout the non-tropical
dry areas through regional programs and country offices.
The Position
ICARDA has a vacancy for a an Ethiopian national to occupy a project
coordinator (NPO-level) position within the Integrated Water and Land
Management Program (IWLMP). The position is based in Ethiopia and
relates to a 3-year project entitled "Unlocking the potential
of rainfed agriculture in Ethiopia for improved rural livelihoods",
which will be carried out by ICARDA, the Institute of Hydraulics and
Rural Water Management of the University of Natural Resources and
Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, the Ethiopia Institute of Agriculture
Research (EIAR), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,
Addis Ababa, and the Amhara Regional Agricultural Research Institute
(ARARI), Ethiopia. The proposed project aims at improving the livelihoods
of the rural communities in the rainfed agro-ecosystem of the Amhara
region of Ethiopia.
QUALIFICATIONS\

PhD in water management, natural resources management,
agronomy, soil science or other relevant subject with at least
three years experience. |

|
Coordination, managerial, supervisory and communication
skills, ability to work in a team and sense for transdisciplinarity. |
|
|
Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct research
and interpret research results through international journal
publications. |

Willingness to travel frequent within Ethiopia
as well as to planning meetings at ICARDA headquarters (Syria) |

Fluency in English, and computer skills. |
TERMS
OF APPOINTMENT
The appointment will be for a period of three years. The salary is
competative and is paid in US dollars. Benefits includes paid annual
leave and medical insurance package.
