Azerbaijan Agriculture Minister Receives CAC Program Head

H.E. the Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, Mr
Irshad Aliyev (right), met with ICARDA's Regional
Coordinator for Central Asia and the Caucasus, Dr
Raj Paroda, in Baku recently. The two discussed
modernization of Azerbaijan's agricultural research
system, part of work funded by the World Bank.

At the invitation of the Government of Azerbaijan, ICARDA Regional Coordinator for Central Asia and the Caucasus (CAC) Dr Raj Paroda visited Baku from 29 July to 2 August to provide expert advice related to modernization of the country's agricultural research system, supported by the World Bank.
     During the visit he met with senior officials in the Ministry of Agriculture, including H.E. the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Irshad Aliyev; Acad. Jalal Aliyev, Chair of the Agricultural Research Board; Mr Rufiz Chiradzade, Operation Officer, ECSSD, World Bank; and Mr Vagif Huseinov, Director, Agency for Support to the Development of the Agricultural Private Sector.

     H.E. Mr Aliyev expressed the need for creating an enabling environment for scientists through development of appropriate facilities and incentives, part of the modernization of the agricultural research system in Azerbaijan. The work is being carried out under a Competitive Grant Scheme funded by the World Bank to create effective national and regional institutes and research stations.
