He briefed the delegation on the mission and mandate of ICARDA and highlighted some of the impacts of the Center's work on enhancing agricultural productivity and improving the economic well-being of the people in the dry areas of the CWANA region. The work being carried out by ICARDA in collaboration with its partners in rehabilitating agriculture in the conflict-affected countries in the regionAfghanistan, Iraq, Palestineattracted much attention of the delegation. Senator Lizin took note of the efforts being made by the Center in enhancing the sustainable use of limited water resources in the region and in the collection, characterization and utilization of the genetic resources of ICARDA's mandate crops, which originated in the region. She showed strong support for increased investment in research for the development of agriculture in dry areas. The DG thanked the Belgian Government for supporting ICARDA's research activities.
