France Honors Dr Assia Alaoui
H.E. Mr Philippe Faure, the Ambassador of France in Morocco, on behalf of the President of the French Republic, presented the distinguished “Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur” award to Dr Assia Alaoui, ex-member of the ICARDA Board of Trustees and Professor at the University Mohamed V, on 21 March 2005 in Rabat. This decoration was awarded to her in recognition of her brilliant national as well as international career. H.E. the Ambassador emphasized Dr Alaoui’s involvement in promoting security in the region and encouraging the Euro-Mediterranean dialog. He also highlighted Dr Alaoui’s role in strengthening relations between France and Morocco. “Dr Alaoui is the most French of the Moroccan women. She is a woman of convictions with a life intimately linked to our country, to our culture and to the outstanding relationship between France and Morocco,” he said.

Dr Alaoui thanked the French President for this distinguished award and expressed her pleasure in being recognized for work “often done in the shadow and with pain.”
