Dr John Ryan of ICARDA Wins IFA Award
The Paris-based International Fertilizer Association (IFA) has announced that Dr John Ryan, Soil Scientist, ICARDA, is to receive the 2006 IFA Award. The award is based on Dr Ryan's lifetime contributions to soil science and crop nutrition. The award is given annually to scientists from developing countries in odd years and scientists from industrialized countries and CGIAR centers in even years. To qualify for the award, candidates must have an international standing in the area of crop nutrition and be nominated by a member company of IFA. Dr Ryan was nominated by Kemira Agro, Finland.

Director General of IFA, Dr Luc Maene, wrote to Dr Ryan to confirm the award: "I am pleased to inform you that your contribution to agricultural research has been declared to be outstanding and that an independent panel of experts has elected you as the Laureate of the IFA International Crop Nutrition Award".

The award carries a cash prize of 10,000 Euros, and will be presented to Dr Ryan at the Association's annual meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, 4-7 June. The Prize also includes a fully paid professional trip of Dr Ryan's choice anywhere in the world.
