ICARDA History & Mandate
ICARDA’s international cooperation is built on its close relationships with national agricultural research systems (NARS) and other partners. These partnerships are coordinated through a network of regional programs and country offices. ICARDA has six regional programs, covering: the Arabian Peninsula; Central Asia and the Caucasus, the Nile Valley and Sub-Saharan Africa; North Africa; South Asia and China, West Asia, and the Highlands covering dry, medium- to high-altitude areas in Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkey.

These programs play multiple roles: creating partnerships and facilitating sharing of skills, resources, technologies and germplasm; ensuring that the research agenda is driven by national and regional priorities; linking researchers to the global scientific community; and accelerating dissemination of new technologies. Thus, they ensure that ICARDA and its partners remain effective across the entire research-development continuum.
