WLI Partners

WLI Local and International Partners

Water scarcity and land degradation are the key constraints to the improvement of rural livelihoods; and constitute the fundamental issues threatening economic development, food security and stability in the seven WLI partnering countries.  National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems (NARES) serve as the implementing partner at the benchmark sites.

The benchmark sites, which typify the livelihood and watershed constraints in the selected countries, also represent the three main agro-ecosystems in the region. The sites in Syria and Lebanon represent a rainfed agro-ecosystem, Jordan and Palestine represent rangelands; and Egypt, Iraq and Yemen represent an irrigated agro-ecosystem. WLI also partners with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), national and regional universities, as well as six U.S. universities who will provide required training, applied research, and technical assistance in accordance to their areas of expertise.
