4. CONCLUSIONS AND NEXT STEPS |

| The
guiding principles formulated during this workshop represent the first science-based
seed regulations for Afghanistan, and form a good basis for a national seed
policy and related legislation. These principles are meant to guide the
production, import and export, and distribution of plant genetic resources
in Afghanistan, which are essential for rebuilding the country's agricultural
sector.
Several points were raised during discussion sessions in the workshop that will be used to revise the current draft guidelines. Summaries of presentations made and the final guiding principles will be published as proceedings of the workshop. |
