Conservation Agriculture

Conservation agriculture – the practice of minimizing soil disturbance, maintaining soil cover, and rotating crops – is a proven technique that improves soil fertility and eliminates the efforts and costs associated with plowing. Long practiced among farmers in developed countries, notably Australia, Brazil, Canada, and the United States, ICARDA’s research has shown that conservation agriculture could have an even greater impact on food production and livelihoods in the dry areas of the developing world.
