FAO Assistant-Director General and Regional representative for the Near East and North Africa region Mr. Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, received at the organisation’s regional office in Cairo Mr. Aly Abousabaa, the newly appointed Director General of ICARDA, the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from both agencies, and was an opportunity to brief Mr. Abousabaa about the ongoing collaboration between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and ICARDA in Egypt and the region.

Building on the successful partnership, Mr. Ould Ahmed and Abousabaa agreed on further exploring sustainable collaboration opportunities within the framework of the Sustainable Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, aiming at creating a favorable environment to achieve more by streamlining their efforts in the common areas of interest, particularly in water, forestry and climate change adaptation.
