Jordanian Agriculture Minister commends ICARDA’s capacity building role

As leadership changed hands at ICARDA past month, the Jordanian Minister of Agriculture, H.E. Dr. Rida Khawaldeh met with Dr. Mahmoud Solh, ICARDA’s outgoing Director General and the incoming Director General, Mr. Aly Abousabaa, on September 25, in Amman. Thanking Dr. Solh for ICARDA’s longstanding and productive partnership with National Center for Agricultural Research and Extension (NCARE), H.E. Dr. Khawaldeh particularly appreciated ICARDA’s role in enhancing Jordan’s agricultural research capacity.  

H.E. Dr. Khawaldeh recounted his own experiences as both a trainee and a trainer as part of ICARDA’s capacity building program in the country.

ICARDA’s collaboration with Jordan dates back to 1977 and has since 1989, sited its West Asia Regional Program in Amman to serve Jordan and the neighboring countries. The partnership has focused on crop improvement, livestock productivity, natural resource management, and dairy value chains.

H.E. Dr. Khawaldeh welcomed Mr. Abousabaa and hopes for ICARDA’s continued support in the region.
