Suspension of ICARDA activities in Iran

ICARDA discontinued project support to the Islamic Republic of Iran and closed its office in Tehran, effective November 3, 2018. This decision reflects lengthy discussions among ICARDA’s management, Board of Trustees, its legal advisors and service providers, and with its long-standing partners in Iran.

The decision reflects growing constraints on ICARDA’s operations in the Islamic Republic of Iran as a result of heightened U.S. sanctions. ICARDA will continue to supply germplasm and provide related training to the extent these are permitted under sanctions. ICARDA hopes to resume its collaborative projects with the Islamic Republic of Iran should external constraints be removed.
