ICARDA innovations help countries and communities strengthen their adaptation to climate change and transition towards food and nutritional security. The Center’s diversity of international scientists offer a broad range of specialized skills - allowing us to mobilize multi-disciplinary teams that generate evidence-based solutions grounded in science and in-depth knowledge of the environments and countries within which we work. We ensure the research we undertake and the knowledge we generate is demand-driven, relevant, and addresses the challenges of smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth.

Protected agriculture – production in marginal areas.
Allowing farmers to grow cash crops on small plots in marginal, water-deficient areas where traditional cropping is not viable.
Tackling the threat of rust disease
Resilient crops offer higher and more stable yields and higher tolerance/resistance to diseases, insect pests, drought, heat, cold, parasitic weeds and other stress factors.
