Climate Change Adaptation

Climate change adaptation measures will enhance food security for rural communities throughout the dry areas

The dry areas are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicts that over the coming decades these marginal areas will experience higher temperatures, more frequent droughts, and increasing water scarcity.

Thematic Areas

Using non-GM molecular breeding techniques, ICARDA’s scientists developed a set of durum wheat varieties that can withstand up to 40°C heat along the Senegal River basin.
