Tesfaye Getachew Mengistu
Dr. Tesfaye Getachew works at ICARDA’s office for sub-Saharan Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where his main responsibility is coordinating small ruminant community-based breeding programs, which are being implemented in eight different sites throughout Ethiopia, in collaboration with national research institutions.
Prior to working at ICARDA, Dr. Tesfaye spent more than fifteen years working in the National Livestock Research System and the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute, focused on sheep breed improvement and animal genetic resource characterization and conservation. His additional research experience covers phenotypic performance analysis, small ruminant breeding, admixture study, and quantitative genetics. Dr. Tesfaye holds a Ph.D. in animal breeding and genetics from the University of Natural Resource and Life Sciences (BOKU), Austria.
