As part of the 26th ICID International Congress and 77th International Executive Council, the ICID Working Group on WEF Nexus (WG-WFE_N), jointly with ICARDA, FAO, and IWMI, is organizing the International Workshop on the “Implementation of the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus at Different Scales for Socio-Economic Development” on 13 October, 2026, in Marseille, France.

The workshop convenes global experts to advance integrated, scalable solutions across water, energy, and food systems. The session explores how WEF Nexus approaches can accelerate progress toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by addressing system interdependencies, trade-offs, and synergies across scales, from basin to national and transboundary levels.

It also highlights inclusive governance frameworks, interactive modelling tools, policy and institutional mechanisms, and the integration of socio-economic and cultural dimensions, with particular attention to farmers’ resilience, income improvement, and resource efficiency.

Conference
ICARDA, in collaboration with national research and science institutions, will co-organize a five-day training workshop on the fundamental applications of genome editing and its regulation in Egypt. Combining high-level plenary discussions (partially supported through the Consortium for Red Palm Weevil Control (C4RPWC) project, funded by the Gates Foundation and the UAE International Affairs Office (IAO) of the Presidential Court) by with hands-on technical training, the event will strengthen capacity among scientists and stakeholders while promoting evidence-based dialogue on biosafety, regulation, and the responsible use of genome editing to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability.
