COP27: Climate Security for the Global Drylands

12:00 – 13:00 ON NOVEMBER 8 AT THE FOOD PAVILION – Convened by ICARDA, this event will reflect on the complexity of integrated farming in the drylands and its impact on climate security depending on the target vulnerable agroecosystem. The discussion will cover the key elements of improving the productivity of drylands and mitigating desertification towards desert farming systems, supporting a transformation towards comprehensive climate-resilient agri-food systems.

Breaking silos and encouraging diverse contributions through an interactive exchange, panelists and the audience will try to find solutions for specific challenges and demands in the global drylands from a multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder approach.

  • Share country and community needs for climate-resilient food systems and propose integrated drylands farming approaches as options for the way forward.

  • Discuss ways investment in agricultural research and development can be accessed and facilitated.

  • Outline how an integrated approach to desert farming systems can be replicated globally and support appropriate innovations and approaches.
