Dr. Jane Wamatu
Scientist - Small Ruminant Nutritionist

Dr. Jane Wamatu has over 20 years of research, rural development, and teaching experience in various national and international research and development organizations. Currently, she is an associate scientist and small ruminant nutritionist at ICARDA. Her core areas of research include the multidimensional crop enhancement of barley and grain legumes for use as food-feed crops, and sheep nutrition.

Before joining ICARDA, Dr. Wamatu was a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences. She also served as a program officer at Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, a research assistant at Hohenhein University in Germany, and an agricultural officer within the Government of Kenya.

Dr. Wamatu holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in animal nutrition from the University of Hohenheim, and a master’s degree in appropriate technology and extension skills from Flensburg University in Germany.
