As demand for wheat grows rapidly across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, ICARDA is urgently addressing the growing climatic challenges, pests, and diseases that hinder its domestic production by generating an effective wheat-breeding strategy, along with new technologies and tools. The resulting wheat varieties deliver high yield potential, resistance/tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses, and acceptable end-use qualities.

ICARDA's wheat breeding program delivers its new bread and durum wheat varieties within integrated technology and capacity building packages that improve the crops' response to inputs such as fertilizers and water, improved irrigation systems, and machinery.

New wheat lines aligned to product lines can also be found in the ICARDA's International Nurseries.
