Our unique research assets include our vast network of partners across non-tropical dry areas and our decentralized mode of operation. They place us in a strong position to carry out innovative research and help transform agriculture for economic growth and sustainable development in non-tropical dry areas.
We plan, implement and monitor our research in collaboration with national agricultural research systems and a range of other partners. A network of our country offices act as a bridge across national borders and help to disseminate new technologies to farm communities.
This decentralized approach also benefits from “opportunities of scale.” In most cases, agro-ecological zones cut across borders. Different countries may share the same production constraints – which means technologies developed and tested at pilot sites can be scaled out (with local modifications as needed) to other countries in a region.
It is this regional focus that has enabled ICARDA and its partners to generate huge benefits from relatively small investments.
